In true colour each star is painted from its own spectral type: the letter and the digit are read as an effective temperature and that temperature is converted through a blackbody to a screen colour. Fifty-three classes in the catalogue become fifty-three colours, so B0 and B9 no longer share one.

Time machine

Pin an instant and the sky is computed for it: the Sun, the Moon and the planets move, and the horizon follows the Earth's rotation for your site. The star field is drawn in the J2000 frame its coordinates are published in, so precession is reported in the detail card rather than faked into the picture.

Astral Planetarium

Star and deep-sky positions are J2000 equatorial coordinates drawn from the archive's own catalogue, and every constellation region is computed from those centres, so the 88 outlines tile the whole sky with no gaps. The moving bodies come from an ephemeris engine bundled with the build.
